Everything You Ever Wanted to Know

We at Hair Works Intl are excited about introducing you to the latest craze in the industry today, “lace front wigs”. We know as the consumer you have many questions, and concerns we have tried to answer our most frequently asked questions on this page.

Before we get started here is some frequent terminology we will be using.

Length- how long the hair will be.
Density- the amount of hair hand tied on the wig to create fullness.
Color pattern- the way in which the color is placed in the wig.
Base color- the main or prominent color of the wig.
Highlight colors- the lighter color or accent colors in the wig.
Baby hair- shorter hairs that frame the hairline creating a very natural look.

What is a lace front wig?

A lace front wig is a very thin light weight wig that is made with a very fine lace. Human hair is hand tied one to two strands at a time all over the lace, by using this technique a very natural wig is created that gives the appearance of the hair growing right out of your scalp. It offers great ventilation that allows the scalp to breath, and is also very easy to scratch your scalp.

These wigs can be designed with two fits custom and semi custom.

A custom lace front wig is designed by using a template.
(Please view our how to make a template page)

A semi custom lace front wig is designed by using measurements of your head.
       (Please view out measurements page)

What is the difference between custom and semi custom?

A custom lace front wig is designed with a template or mold that is made by using plastic wrap and packing tape. By using this technique you are able to create a perfect fit for your hair line, and capture all dimensions of your head.

With this fit you are able to custom design everything about your wig, like the curvature of your front hair line ex: widow peaks (the hair line comes to a point in the center of the head), or neck lines that are V or W shape. Or maybe you have a prominant forehead and would like to bring your hair line down a bit to make your forehead a bit smaller, or create side burns. We put you in the driver seat and the possibilities are endless!

*Note: all of our custom lace front wigs come with baby hair and bleached knots unless the client specifies otherwise.

A semi custom lace front wig which is designed by using measurements only. This wig is created by using different measurements of your head. It is very similar to the custom full head lace front in its appearance. However, the fit can be very different.

Because you are using measurements you will not capture the natural curvatures of your hairline or head. Ex: the natural flow of the side burns, the curvy hair lines, or the shaping of the neck line. This fit comes with a standard hair line front and back. However, this is still a great wig. For many people this wig is enough.

In some cases your own hairline will extend past the wig, not giving you complete coverage.

If you are new to the lace front wig craze, we recommend you start with a semi custom wig first, until you familiarize yourself with the wigs then you will know exactly what you want. Lace front wigs can be very addicting because you can have perfect hair all the time.

Can I measure myself, or make my own template?

You can measure yourself; however, we do not suggest that you measure yourself. You can get more accurate measurements if you have a friend measure you. We have provided information on how to measure you head. Please view our measurement page.

You can not make your own template. You definitely need a partner to make a template for you. Making a template is very easy to do we have provided all the information you need to make your own template. Please see our how to make a template page.

How do I know if a lace front wig is for me?

Any one can wear a lace front wig. They were originally created for people who suffered from hair loss such as alopecia, chemo patients or trichotillomania. However, every one is wearing them in 21st century. They grace the heads of many stars like Tyra Banks, Mary J., Brandy, Ciara, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, etc

You don’t have to have hair loss problems to wear a lace front wig. For many they are using the lace front wig to replace the common track weave, net weave, or hair extensions.

How long does the lace front last?

The wig can last for ever with proper care and minor repairs as long as you follow the care instructions.

How do I apply my lace front wig?

There are many ways to apply your lace front wig. How you apply it really depends on how you want to wear it. You can apply the wig for daily wear, weekly wear, or extended wear. Please see our how do I apply my lace front wig.

How is the lace front wig different from regular wigs?

Lace front wigs are light weight, and non bulky. Because of the way they are made, you can change the part every time you wash or wet the wig. They are flat and move more like your own hair. You are able to wear them in a high pony tail, and are up dos. No one will be able to tell you are wearing a wig even up close!

What makes the wig look natural?

At HWI we believe what makes the wig look so natural is the density pattern. If the wig is too thick it looks wiggy. That is why we created a natural density that we recommend to all of our customers. Our natural density pattern is a combination of different densities placed all through out the wig to achieve a very natural looking mane of hair. This density pattern allows you to have the most natural looking wig and still be able to wear many different hair styles including high pony tails and up dos. Please view our density chart.

Most of the lace front wigs I have seen are long or medium length, can I get a lace front wig to wear in a short hair style?

Absolutely! You can order a lace front wig to wear in a short spike hair style or a mohawk. When you receive your wig from us you can take it to your hair stylist and have them to cut it in any style you like. All lace front wigs do not have to be long.

Can I choose different textures?

Yes, we texturize our wigs ourselves. We offer a relaxed texture for our ethnic clients. We do not offer yaky straight textures because we only use 100% percent human hair in our lace wigs. There is an extra charge for texturizing.

We do offer other textures please view our hair texture page.

How many colors can I have in my wig?

You can have as many colors as you like. If your color pattern is very intricate, or you are asking for more then three colors base color included we require that you send a sample wig. There will be an extra charge for more then three colors.

Please view the pictures on our color chart.

Does the wig come cut and styled?

We do offer some wigs that are pre cut and styled, however the majority of our orders the wigs are not cut and styled. Most of our customers take their wigs to their stylist to have them cut and styled.

Does lace front wigs cause any damage to my own hair?

Generally lace wigs do not cause any damage to your own hair. How ever it does depend on how you apply them. Please view our wig application page to get more information on the topic.

I have been wearing track weaves or hair extensions, are lace front wigs an option for me?

Absolutely! If you are a person who now wears the braided track weave, a net weave, or the bonding track weave. The lace front wig is definitely for you. Talk about liberation! No more insecurities about windy days or whether the person sitting behind you can see your tracks.

How much does the lace front cost?

Prices of the lace front wigs vary. HWI has set prices for our semi custom wigs please view our members only internet special page. Our custom wigs vary depending on what you order. We have worked hard to keep our prices low; our custom wigs vary from $380 to $700.00.

What type of hair do you use?

We only use 100% high Quality Indian Remy and Asian Remy Hair.

What is thin skin? How do I know which base material is better for me?

Thin Skin is a thin plastic material that is made to look like a scalp.

Thin skin is normally used when a person is completely bald. The material is very hot and does not breathe well.

Lace front wigs work well for people who have hair, and for those who are balding. It has great ventilation, so your head does not get hot. There are many ways to apply the lace front whether you have a hair line or not.

We don’t feel thin skin is needed however; it may be the clients choice. We will always honor that.

HWI feels the lace front is the better choice because has a more natural hair line with great ventilation.

How long does it take for me to receive my lace wig?

It generally takes 6 to 8 weeks from the time the order is processed, to receive your lace wig. If you are purchasing on the website with your credit card the order is processed right away. If you mail a check, money order, or cashier check to us your order will be processed the moment we receive your check.

If orders are faxed, or payment sent through Paypal, orders are processed as soon as we received notice of payment. If payments are received between 9 to 5 Eastern Time orders will be processed the same day. If orders are received after office hours, or on the weekend the orders will be processed the next business day.

Why does it take so long to make a lace wig?

All of our wigs are made either custom or semi custom, so they are all hand made. Each individual little hair is hand tied all over the wig until it is completely covered this process takes time. The quality that you receive is worth the wait.

If you are ordering from a company that has lace wigs on hand for you to purchase most of the time those are stock wigs that are made with lower quality materials, and hair. The wig may not fit you well, nor will they last long.
